DOGRA PRAYER

Oh my dear Dogra sahib–

please give me strength to recite Dogra prayer daily,

Give me health and wealth to promote Dogras’ interests always,

it should be daily duty to tell my family about Dogras,

Only Dogras are true acheivers,

Dogras can change the face of this earth,

Let my grandchildren also know more about Dogras,

give peace and happiness to all Dogras and Dogris,

Let Dehradoon be the last abode of all Dogras,

let Dogras sacrifice everything to protect Dehradoon,

Let Jahan Singh be the savoiur of all Dogras,

Let Prof Rajput win the Haldi ghati battle,

Let Monga’s both legs be OK,

Give 50 plates full of rajmah rice to Girdhari lall,

Let Baba Ladli lall be the savour of all dogras,

Let Kamal dhawan teach the song to his grandkids,

May suraj prakash cool the entire ocean,

Let Jhurloo come out of nowhere and become a warrior,

Let GP find out where is Janak,

let Ashwani mehra find out more women to dance with,

Prem Kumar Dogra

After I had written about Prem I felt there is something more i need to put for records sake.He used to be influenced by Rajesh Khanna–the popular actor those days–He would wear a very colourful T-shirt and make his hair look like Rajesh khanna Exactly—Once in a while he used to wear goggles–

He was very fond of good food,Milk and eggs and also about weight lifting and keeping his body in shape.

He was short statured but quite muscular at the top but very thin legs–and imagine he used to wear tight pants!!!

Coming from a small town like Ludhiana and body builder–and studying Physics??There was something amiss–He was not cut out to be a Physicist but was intelligent enough to know what he wanted–

After his Msc–he appeared for IAS exams and took subhash’s help in getting through the written exams.Both Subhash and Prem used to stay at my house while appering for their exams.Both of them got through and were selected in Income tax deptt.

Prem got his first posting in bombay as ITO and fortunetely or unfortunately film circle.When Dilip Kumar the great actor came to meet prem he did’t know how to take care of him–he floundered and orderd a cup of tea–and later became quite closer to dilip kumar–he used to visit their house in Bandra–

Film circle,Income tax and so much of attention probably turned his head and he left his wife because of some reasons very soon after the marriage.As a Govt servant he could not marry unless he had divorced his first wife and his inlaws went to the Court–Prem kumar studied law and it took him ten years to get his divorce finally–

It was during 1990 that I met him alongwith my friend rajesh anand(Kaddoo)–and Prem kumar was still maintaining the university time diary and requested for songs which i had completely forgotten.both Rajesh and me kept on singing for quite sometime and he kept on drinking whisky till the bottle was finished.I noted he was drinking and smoking very heavily–

dehradoon remained on his chest till the end and he always dreamed like so many other dogras of being a son in law of the great dehradoon–he was now getting ready to get married again and was considering various options–

One fine morning when I was informed about his untimely death i was not shocked or even surprised since I knew he had beeen slowly heading towards it–Film circle,Free imported whisky and the false circle he got into by dint of his position killed hi personal life and himself–

I often feel sad for him–he worked hard and got a reasonably good status for himself but was not able to live with it–he was a simple soul–a middle class man with simple dreams–Income Tax and film circle put him into a different position where he could not balance himself–

We all loved him and it was a joy meeting him and it is sad that a Dogra of Prem Kumar level left us so soon.

Subhash gupta Dogra and Narbada

He was always very fond of swimming –right from his childhood days–when only three years old he went to Ludhiana Canal and he was in his mother’s lap when he jumped out and started swimming–people gathered and saved him and thank God he was saved!!!!We would have one Dogra less if he was gone–

When a child of ten years he was walking on the road and thinking about mahatama Gandhi–three sikh boys caught hold of him and gave him a thrashing–Why?–You know Lidhiana is a town like that–and that is why his father decided to send him to Chandigarh Campus.

Here again he was always lost in his own World and thought about swimming all the time–he would go to our Campus pool and swim with a book in his hand–Shekhar ek Jiwani–

Now that he is a highly placed Govt.Officer in Jabalpur–he conducts his office from narbada river–he is so fond of swimming that he swims and his subordinates get the papers signed from him while he is in narbada–

He longs to come back to go to Ludhiana and have a swim in his favourite canal with his old schoolmates–

Prem Kumar Dogra and Dehradoon

This post is to remenber our great Dogra Prem Kumar who was a short statured body builder from Ludhiana.His father was a Professor of English but Prem Kumar was fond of physical pleasures of life.He had a good diet–ofcourse not like Girdhari lall who could eat three platefull of rajmah rice and still feel hungry and would say”I had no appetite today!!!!!”Imgine his capacity!!!!

Girdhari was always compared to great Hanuman and was from bhatinda and a simple soul–I met him in 1992 in Jaipur and took a photograph of Girdhari lall and his son–They looked like ditto copy of each other–

It will be interesting to see the Dogras photographs now that they are all past 55 years and with grey hair and most of them leading a retired life—

Prem Kumar Dogra was very fond of Eggs,Milk,Curd and ofcourse Dehradoon which became the ultimate cause of his death–He was suffering and drinking quite heavily–thinking of dehradoon all the time–

If time and money permits we should erect a statue of this great dogra in Dehradoon!!!

Times to come people would remember that a great dogra sacrificed his life for Dehradoon!!!

When all Dogras think about these lines they think about Kamal Kishore Dhawan,Commissioner Income Tax and also about Joginder singh Dogra—Bananas were in fashion those days during 1970 and joginder singh was very fond of them and would normally hide bananas under his bed in the hostel room.Once the dogras discovered and all hell was let loose and Captain dogra had to hide under the bed fearing Joginder’s wrath–

But KKDhawan had lot of guts and he was not afraid of Joginder and he recited a song–in the Physics deptt of PUCampus–Bhabi lai de chitri wale kele and there was so much of demand of this song by girls of the deptt that kamal had to recite it time and gain in his sweet voice with gold medals on his blazer.

Where are you Kamal kishore Dhawan???all Dogras miss you and want to listen to your lovely voice and our favourite song Bhabi____

Where are you Joginder Singh Dogra urf Chammi Kapoor???we all miss you and your bananas!!!!!

When Kamal went to Income tax acdemy at nagpur his colleagues asked him for a song and imagine Kamal sang his favourite song–Bhabi lai de chitri wale kele–tu kaini ein bhindiyan kha lai–main te khane karele–!!!!!and the hall was full of laughter!!!!Oh Dogras you should all have been there to witness what happened????

What makes Dogras so great??

Physics and Maths are two difficult subjects and people who can master these subjects are nearer to Einstein and Dogras are all Physicists–highly intelligent and above average men from Panajb University Campus Chandigarh–all these guys did their Post Graduation and went in different directions—

Dr Singal is an Astronomer and a great astro physicist and a founder member of Dogra club.He was in germany and Holland and then in bagaluru,OOty,Pune and now in Ahemedabad.He is a shining example of great Dogras.He can make even a bird laugh–what about animals? yeas,he was at his telescope once and saw a tiger in the Universe and Tiger started laughing.Singal was surprised–and asked the tiger why?Why do you laugh?The Tiger said–Do you know jahan singh??Dr Singal said-yes,ofcourse he was our very dear professor and came from honduras and went to forensic scince as director and was vry fond of sanjeev Pahwa and was always smiling–He could have become a great actor and given tough fight to amitabh bachhan and Rajesh khanna both!!!So what??the tiger asked????Even Monga who was lame by one leg could be an actor too!!!

But why was Tiger laughing??did he see drSingal’s small bird or thought of GPNamdeo or Sural prakash kapoor came in his dream???

that is a great unanswered question and any dogra who can answer that will get an award from our great captain dogra!!!!!

Subhash gupta is another great dogra who is a highly placed commissioner at Jabalpur and he was a philosopher and all dogras remenber him as Gandhi!!!He is gone to Kiyari Ghat and Bera ghat and is found swimming in narmada quite often.He signs all his important papers while swimming in narmada!!!!

Pankaj Verma is DGM at State bank of India and Hyderabad people do not know yet that a Dogra is living among them.He can stop a cra and a truck with one single finger–He is very powerful and is planning to enter Olympics in london in 2012____

Thanks dr Ashok Singal–and you are also happy to know about GPNamdeo but he has again disappeared.He is so shy of his little bird but he probably is not aware that all of us who are in our fiftioes are no different–so why feel bad about it.He had married three times and it did not work–the first one was from london and she ran away leaving all her belongings in india.The second one was from sweden and she got mad and had to be transported to scandinavia.The third one is still there but GP is worried and highly concerned that she may also run awway!!!He is so scared that he does’t even talk to his neighbours even.We all need to give him confidence and hold his hand so that he can be on his own legs once again.–
